First Downtown Spokane Library Established
First Downtown Spokane Library Established 
 
On July 1, 1883 the first downtown library of Spokane opened. The library and public reading room was located in Mr. and Mrs. Fellowes Toy and Music Shop on Riverside Ave. The library was short lived, closing in 1884. Source: Gengler, Rita A.
